Optional Personal Accident Insurance - Step 3 & 4 and Pro Game Clubs
Steps 3 & 4
It has come to light, whilst majority of Step 3 & 4 teams have Personal Accident cover, there are some who will require purchasing a suitable level of cover, as per FA Standardised Rules, within Affiliation. With both the Isthmian FL and Northern Premier FL having cover in place, it appears to affect only those playing in the Southern FL. If you have teams in the Southern FL, this may affect you.
Many Steps 3 & 4 teams used to take PA cover direct from insurers or via their County FA. Some insurers are now advising personal accident insurance to be purchased direct from County FAs, with clubs responsible for ensuring the level of cover is suitable for the Step in which they play and rules to which they are bound, normally precluding them from purchasing basic levels, as enhanced cover is needed around weekly benefit.
To enable an PA offer to Step 3 & 4 teams, we suggest that County FAs create relevant PA options in other products under equipment and marked (Step 3&4), so it is clear to others who these are aimed at. As it is not a requirement they purchase, it is the only way to manage for the 90 or so team affected, with many who may have cover in place anyhow. Should you need any assistance on setting this up, please contact Ash Slaughter.
Finally, it may be worth touching base directly with your clubs who have teams in the Southern League at Steps 3 & 4, to advise accordingly, ensuring the option is available should they wish.
Pro Game Clubs with Teams in Grassroots Competitions
Similarly, to the above, whilst Pro Game clubs are exempt from PA insurance, it has come to light that we have teams within a few Pro Game clubs, who are linked and affiliated under the same entity, who may require the purchase of PA cover from the County FA. Our solution again, as optional, and not mandatory to purchase these depending on what cover they have in place. We suggest County FAs offer this as an optional product under other products, if approached by a club to do so, as some will be covered, some will require purchasing of PA cover.
Likewise, it may be worth directly contacting those Pro Game clubs in your County FA, if you know they have Grassroots Teams linked, to ask if any cover is required.
